Parr 5000 Parallel Pressure Reactor
This high pressure reactor system can perform up to six reactions at different temperatures. It features 45 mL reactors built from Alloy C276 to handle corrosive materials at up to 2500 PSI and 300 °C. Each reactor has independent magnetic stirring, temperature control, and a pressure transducer that records the pressure drop during a reaction. All parameters are controlled and the data recorded by the Parr 4871 process controller and attached computer. This system is ideally suited for medium-throughput screening of simple high-pressure reactions.
Details on Alloy C276: Alloy C276 is also marketed under the brand name Hastelloy C. It is commonly used for reactors where corrosion resistance is vital to the integrity of the reactor. For example, C276 is resistant to oxidation by hydrochloric acid, whereas stainless steel quickly corrodes in the presence of hydrochloric acid. Care should still be taken when using strong oxidizing conditions (concentrated acid, aqua regia, chromic acid), especially over prolonged periods of time.
