EasyMax and ReactIR

EasyMax Automated Reactor

EasyMax and ReactIR

These two instruments are set up and designed to work together. They are a good solution to measure reaction kinetics or otherwise use “data-rich experimentation” techniques. Controlled by a single computer and software interface, all facets of a reaction and measurement of kinetics can be set by the user, including reaction temperatures, stirring rates, IR data collection, and liquid dosing. See below for additional details about each of the two instruments.

EasyMax

The EasyMax by Mettler Toledo is  an automated reaction platform. Using either the attached touch screen (for simple experiments) or computer with iControl software (for more complex experiments), a researcher can program reaction parameters and record reaction data. The parameters that can be controlled and recorded include:

  • Reactor Temperature (ranging from -40 °C to +180 °C)

  • Stirring speed (50 to 1000 rpm, using magnetic or overhead stirring)

  • Reaction pressure (recording only, up to 100 bar)

  • Reaction gas uptake (at pressures up to 100 bar)

  • Liquid dosing at ambient and elevated pressures

  • In Situ IR data collection

With two temperature control zones, the EasyMax can be equipped with either two 100 ml glass reactors, two 100 ml C276 high pressure reactors, or ten 8 ml vials. Ports on these reactors also can allow for manual liquid sampling for offline analysis.

Note: the EasyMax is a highly modular platform and capable of logging data from many meters and sensors on the market. If you would like to explore using a different meter or sensor from those listed above, please contact the CSC for more information.

ReactIR

Coupled with the EasyMax is the ReactIR 702L. Featuring solid-state detector cooling, this instrument no longer requires periodic liquid nitrogen refills. The iC IR control software is linked directly to the iControl software of the EasyMax, allowing for simple control of IR measurements when setting up an experiment on the EasyMax. The DiComp probe has an observation window from 2500 to 2250 cm-1 and 2000 to 650 cm-1. It is compatible with the full temperature range of the EasyMax and can be used at pressures up to 65 bar.
