CSC Columns
The core of any chromatographic technique comes down to the column. GC, HPLC, SFC all require specific columns. Each column has its own use case, and will be good for different types of analytes. While this guide doesn’t go through the specific techniques, and shouldn’t be taken as universal, it is hopefully a starting point if you don’t know what columns the CSC has and what they are useful for. We have 3 main types of columns: reverse phase LC, normal phase LC/SFC, and GC.
Reverse Phase LC Columns

- DB-1701 (14% cyanopropylphenyl/86%methylpolysiloxane) - Mid-polarity including alcohols, sugar derivatives, etc.
- AT-Aquawax-DA (PEG-nitroterephthal acid) - Aqueous injections of small molecule acids
- TB-Bond Q (100% divinylbenzene) - Permanent gases (CO2, CH4, O2, N2, CO)
- GS-Carbonplot (carbon layer) - inorganic and organic gases
- DB-1 (100% dimethylpolysiloxane) - high temperature, wide variety of nonpolar compounds
